The Saucon Valley High School Professional Development Wiki for 2008-2009 will attempt to help familiarize you with Marzano's 9 techniques to enhance student Achievement. The object of Marzano's 9 techniques is to provide systematic, nonevaluative support for teaching and learning.

One of Marzano’s objectives and his life’s work in educational research centers around good teaching practices, he makes the attempt to incorporate aspects of the art and science of teaching. His method seems to include administrative observations done to determine if student learning is taking place. If the principal can determine if learning is in fact taking place, what components exist in the teacher’s repertoire that facilitate student learning. It seems Marzano wants to build on the classroom teacher’s strengths, define weaknesses and prescribe professional development to improve on the weaknesses. He takes an individual approach to teaching, realizing that all teachers are different and bring something different to the classroom and he doesn’t make the attempt to make all teachers the same. He does realize however that a variety of specific teaching methods produce learning and that each teacher must incorporate as many of these methods as they can to enrich the lives of their students and to improve student achievement.
